The Story Behind Hocus Pocus Cleaning: From Side Hustle to Community Staple

In 2016, our founder, Rosie Selvaggio, was balancing the demands of motherhood, a psychology degree, and late-night shifts as a server. With limited time for her 4-year-old daughter or personal passions, she found unexpected peace in cleaning—a familiar comfort from her childhood, where she helped her mother and grandmother with tasks like wiping window sills and scrubbing floors with PineSol.

In 2013, Rosie began offering post-construction cleaning for local contractors as a side hustle. Encouraged by the steady demand, she registered Hocus Pocus Cleaning as an official business to support herself through school, setting her sights on making it to her 2020 graduation. Although she faced many challenges (and learned from quite a few refunds), Rosie’s determination fueled the business’s growth.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Hocus Pocus Cleaning was initially faced with uncertainty. However, with the surge in demand that summer, Rosie made the bold decision to fully invest in the business rather than stepping back as she completed her Master’s Degree from Marywood University.

Today, Hocus Pocus Cleaning has grown into a trusted, award-winning service with a team of over 20 dedicated employees serving more than 260 recurring clients. Rosie no longer handles cleaning duties herself; instead, she focuses on leading her team and nurturing their growth. In addition to her work with Hocus Pocus Cleaning, she coaches other cleaning business owners nationwide through Core Profit Builders and practices as a licensed social worker, combining her dedication to mental health with her passion for helping others succeed.
